He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts and a Chartered Member of the Chartered Institute of Securities and Investment, having an academic background in Political Economics. He is a visionary leader and a serial entrepreneur. He was made a Member of the British Empire (MBE) in 2013 for Services to West Midlands’ Businesses.
Martin is British born of Jamaican heritage; in his early years he studied at the Haile Salassie School in Kingston Jamaica where he was made its first Head Boy in the 1970s.
Martin leads a unique medical device business that is demonstrating a truly global opportunity with regards to delivering better healthcare provisions for patients and professionals using innovations emanating from within the NHS.
Martin has an inspirational, ethical and process orientated style of leadership drawn from his days in the military, as a bomb disposal officer, and then in international banking. After leaving banking he founded one of the UK’s first e-commerce financial marketplace companies that was the forerunner to the Money Supermarket. Martin has spent over 25 years in the capital markets, having an in-depth knowledge and experience of the bond and private equity markets.
Martin’s career was followed by taking on the challenge to guide a not-for- profit organisation within community regeneration; the blue print of his engagement in social and business regeneration accumulated with him being one of the founding fathers establishing for the West Midlands its own medical Industry association in the form of Medilink West Midlands.
Martin’s work in the West Midlands has resulted in £15 million of inward investment into the area and has sustained over 300 jobs within the region during one of worse economic down turns in UK history. Martin Chair’s the Birmingham Commonwealth Association Trade and Business focus group along with Medilink West Midlands and is a NED for Nehemiah United Churches Housing Association (UCHA).
In early July 2016, Martin was confirmed as one of the 27 UK Export Champions via a public announcement from the Commonwealth Enterprise and Investment Council and the UK government.
